{"id":23152,"date":"2021-06-28T14:17:30","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T19:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entraidediabetique.wp.vortexdev.com\/le-petit-guide-du-parfait-demenageur\/"},"modified":"2024-08-21T15:19:49","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T20:19:49","slug":"a-little-guide-for-the-perfect-mover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entraidediabetique.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/a-little-guide-for-the-perfect-mover\/","title":{"rendered":"A Little Guide for the Perfect Mover presented by Entraide diab\u00e9tique du Qu\u00e9bec"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Summer is undoubtedly the biggest moving season and, as July 1 approaches, a lot of excitement is felt in Qu\u00e9bec households, as it is estimated that 10-12% of moves in the province take place on that date.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If you&#8217;re moving soon, here&#8217;s a checklist to help you avoid forgetting anything as you go about the thousand and one things to do in order to get everything ready for the big day.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><strong>As soon as possible, if you haven\u2019t already done so:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Request mail forwarding service from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadapost-postescanada.ca\/cpc\/en\/personal\/receiving\/manage-mail\/mail-forwarding.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canada Post<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Complete address change notifications, especially for your financial institutions, Revenue Canada, <em>Service qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de changement d&#8217;adresse<\/em>, your employer, your service providers (electricity, telephone, Internet, cable, natural gas, etc.), your children&#8217;s school and your health care services.<\/li>\n<li>Get a new home insurance policy.<\/li>\n<li>Make arrangements for a babysitter to look after your young children, if you have any, in order to avoid accidents during the move.<\/li>\n<li>Drop off the small items you want to dispose of (clothes, kitchen items, games, etc.) in a <a href=\"https:\/\/entraidediabetique.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/donation-box-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">donation bin<\/a> or call Entraide diab\u00e9tique du Qu\u00e9bec for a <a href=\"https:\/\/entraidediabetique.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/doorsteep-collection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">home pick-up<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Three or four days before the move:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finish packing last-minute items, such as closet, kitchen and bathroom items, keeping only the items you will need between now and the move.<\/li>\n<li>For each family member, pack a suitcase for the first night in your new apartment or house.<\/li>\n<li>Buy food for moving day, preferably cold foods that can be eaten without cutlery or plates (e.g. sandwiches, cold pizza, raw vegetables) and are easily shared.<\/li>\n<li>In one or two boxes in the front of your car or truck, put items that you want to keep handy. Take a look at the weather forecast to adjust this list as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Bottles of water and snacks<\/li>\n<li>Paper towels, gloves and cleaning supplies<\/li>\n<li>Broom, bucket and mop<\/li>\n<li>Garbage bags<\/li>\n<li>Toilet paper<\/li>\n<li>First aid kit, including bandages<\/li>\n<li>Towels to mop up sweaty foreheads and hands<\/li>\n<li>Hand soap and disinfectant<\/li>\n<li>Masks<\/li>\n<li>Basic tools (tape measure, hammer, drill or screwdriver, pliers)<\/li>\n<li>Scissors and a utility knife<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If need be, prepare a bag for the children that will contain a change of clothes; diapers if necessary; toys to keep them occupied; some snacks and their comfort items.<\/li>\n<li>The night before, put cold packs and ice in the freezer to fill the cooler.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the phone number of the local pizza restaurant into your cellphone. You never know; it might come in handy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>The day before the move:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure all boxes are identified with the contents and the name of the room where it is to be placed in the new apartment or house.<\/li>\n<li>If you are using movers, take pictures of your furniture and appliances in case there is any damage during the move.<\/li>\n<li>Call your friends and the movers to make sure they remember the agreed upon time to be there.<\/li>\n<li>Fill the cooler with whatever is left in the fridge and then clean it out.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug your appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>On moving day:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be ready when the movers and your friends arrive and get to your new home as soon as possible to coordinate the process.<\/li>\n<li>Take the time to welcome your family and friends who have volunteered their time and efforts.<\/li>\n<li>If you have older children, get them involved by giving them simple tasks to do (sweeping, washing a closet, handling light boxes, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Wait a few hours before plugging in the refrigerator again.<\/li>\n<li>Inspect appliances and furniture for damage before signing the mover&#8217;s bill.<\/li>\n<li>Celebrate the end of the day with a meal and refreshing drinks!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>After the move:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Before you begin unpacking the boxes, sweep and mop your new home to remove any dirt left over from the move.<\/li>\n<li>Tidy up the children&#8217;s room(s) first so they feel comfortable in their new home.
