Entraide diab\u00e9tique du Qu\u00e9bec<\/em> (EDQ) is a non-profit organization established by Diabetes Qu\u00e9bec<\/em> in 1994. EDQ is a public foundation recognized as a charitable organization duly registered with Revenue Canada (Registration No.: 137493987RR0001).<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/1″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]EDQ\u2019s primary activity consists in collecting textiles and various other used items, which are then resold. All profits arising from this activity are donated to Diabetes Qu\u00e9bec<\/em> in support of its mission.<\/p>\n

The EDQ coordinates all of its activities from its head office, which is located in Mirabel. Its operations are conducted through three branch offices in Qu\u00e9bec. The Quebec City, Trois-Rivi\u00e8res and Mirabel centres handle pick-ups, which are carried out seven days a week in the municipalities they serve. The EDQ receives no government grants.<\/p>\n

Over the years, the EDQ has carved out an enviable position in a formerly underdeveloped sector of activity. The gently used clothing and items it collects are sold through Village des Valeurs<\/em> stores, with which the EDQ has enjoyed a special business relationship from the outset.<\/p>\n

Items come, in part, from 200 donation bins.<\/u><\/strong> These are scattered throughout populated areas, allowing donors to easily drop off used clothing and other items themselves.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, each branch has a team of telephone operators offering home pick-ups to potential donors. Some 10,000 calls<\/strong> are made daily. The EDQ also has a fleet of 12 trucks<\/strong>, picking up donations from people\u2019s home, free of charge.<\/strong> Every day, throughout Qu\u00e9bec, some 500 homes<\/strong> are visited.<\/p>\n

The EDQ has close to 70 employees in Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>. Telephone operators, truck drivers, reception or administrative clerks \u2014 all EDQ employees are committed to optimizing operations in order to meet the organization\u2019s objectives. In so doing, they help build EDQ\u2019s enviable reputation in the recovery, reuse and recycling of residual materials.<\/p>\n

Today, everyone is aware of the negative environmental impact of disposing of residual materials in landfill sites. The Environment Quality Act<\/em>, which led to the adoption of the Qu\u00e9bec residual materials management policy<\/em>, has contributed to a significant change in consumer habits.<\/p>\n

The EDQ is proud to participate in a recovery and reuse cycle that benefits all parties as well as the environment. By giving a second lease on life to many used items in good condition, the EDQ\u2019s activities help keep more than 4,000 tons of textile materials <\/strong>and 1,500 tons of various items <\/strong>from landfill sites every year.<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EDQ is a major partner in the pick-up of used clothing and other items. The cleanliness and condition of its facilities as well as the regularity of its services reflect professionalism and respect \u2014 values it exhibits in its dealings with donors and collaborators. For these reasons, more and more towns, companies, organizations and individuals support the EDQ\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n
